If you live in California and you’ve never been to Los Olivos, you have to go! It’s the quaintest town, friendly people, and wine tasting rooms galore! One of my absolute favorite tasting rooms and a MUST stop for me is Carhartt.  It’s a three generations family owned and operated winery. Mike Carhartt and his wife, Brooke, decided to go in to the wine biz. They planted grapes on a ranch, Rancho Santa Ynez to be precise, where they also make the wine. Brooke is the winemaker; Mike is more agricultural. Their son, Chase, helps run the business, and is also one of the winemakers (their new 2014 Pinot Gris was made by him, exclusively).

everyone is sitting around drinking wine. Dogs are also welcome.

I love their Rosé (which last we had, tasted like a watermelon Jolly Rancher- sooooo good!) and their Sangiovese, which is amazing with pizza. They are always a staple for me, but the last tasting had some new and exciting stuff, which was fantastic!

Their wine is consistently amazing and has this distinct great quality without being overly fussy, if that makes sense? Their tasting room consists of both an inside area and an outside one. Inside is a very small tasting bar, which on a busy day, is usually standing room only. The outside area reminds me of someone’s backyard- it is cool and shady, with lots of chairs and tables and
